Room At The Top Loft Conversion

It has been 17 months since the RATT crew took perfectly good roof off. We needed an extra bedroom and decided to get builders in (big mistake on choosing these). At first they seemed ok but on the first day he ended up telling our neighbours to ring the council and complain as they removed some of their roof tiles.

The next problem was when they built our roof without the steel in and said it wasn’t a problem it stayed up so we believed them but the steel was in the middle of the timber on our plans and when installed they had chosen to install it under the timber and chop it into three with no documents stating this was ok. choosing to make the calculations themself and they were incorrect so it took six months before he got a friend of his to create some drawings nothing like ours.

When the building inspector failed our house on several points Room At The Top told us the building inspector didn’t know what he was on about as he wasn’t a builder.

They also installed the steel in our live chimney Brest and we have had to remove our gas fire and can no longer have one. They did try to cut the steel through the top of the chimney and when he couldn’t do it went home and left the pot and brick work all over the roof. I said if he can’t do the job I would get someone else in. He immediately produced an £8000 bill for one of the payments being a day late and told us he was going to take us to court despite it being six months after the completion date and we had no way of getting the building signed off.

I had to get the building passed off myself because they fell out with the inspector.

Since then the roof has leaked over ten times They have returned to try and repair but failed as the roof holds over twenty litres of water constantly and the repair can’t hold the water on top of it. We have a bird fight on the roof over the bird bath every morning and jumping all over it all day.

They believe that the problems that arise are not their fault and you are out of order ringing on Friday at 3:00 as it’s after hours despite the water pouring through your roof. On our last conversation I was told said if I continued to ring I could go elsewhere for my work sorting. So I text to try and keep from badgering resulting in no reply.

I then got another roofer to come and see what was wrong as Room at the top ripped off our felt on the other side of the roof making the leak ten times worse and left the felt all over our roof and garden. He is untidy with overflowing skip for three months after the job completed.

We have relentless cans and rubbish piled up behind our walls out of sight out of mind until water leaks on them in the middle of the night.

They decided to change our hallway without telling us saying building regs wouldn’t alow the hallway to be narrower than the stairs even though it would have been wider. He just built it and then said that was your only option. He also left out our velux window without informing us.
