About Bentonite MS
Bentonite (Manufacturing & Supply) Ltd was started when our director purchased a grouting company – since then the company has changed names, grown and become the family-run business it is today.
Lynton is the brains behind the business, with decades of technical knowledge in concrete mixes, foam concrete and specialist grout blends. Andrew, his son, is our expert on site. His knowledge of our bespoke equipment is second to none, he has been working with foam concrete and bentonite blends since he left school. Samantha, Lynton’s daughter, runs the company day to day looking after the accounts, payments and customers. We also have Matthew on our team who has over 22 years’ experience in foam concrete and the construction industry.
Together, we combine our wealth of knowledge to supply customers with top quality bentonite and foam concrete products and materials along with the highest standards of customer service every time.
Bentonite Products
Bentonite’s main component is the clay mineral montmorillonite, together with associated minerals that include quartz, tridymite, cristobalite, mica, feldspar, pyrite and calcite.
The mineral is mined from various locations across the world before being ground to form a powder. Various additives may be added to the bentonite to enhance its performance.
Bentonite expands when wet, absorbing as much as eight times its dry mass in water. This allows it to permeate cracks and crevices, forming a self-sealing low permeability barrier – this is known as a bentonite slurry wall.
Bentonite (Manufacturing & Supply) Ltd can supply the following high-quality and effective bentonite grouts, bentonite cement slurries and other products.
Cable Ducting
This process comprises the infilling of ducts that are placed under roads/railway lines/rivers and that have had cables pulled through them.
Pumping in a liquid material that encapsulates the cable allows the heat to be transferred from around the cable to prevent it from overheating. Thermal grouting is an engineering solution to infill a duct with an HT cable insert with a low Thermal Resistivity material.
Heat is the prime enemy of electric transmissions, because it increases wire resistance and shortens the lifespan of the cable insulation. Cross-country transmission lines suspended high in the air from steel towers are not insulated and heat is easily dissipated into the air. But for cables buried in a conduit under the ground, heat is confined.
Volume Calculator
If you’re not sure about how much bentonite material you will be needing for your next project, the team at Bentonite (Manufacturing & Supply) Ltd is here to help. Our volume calculator helps you estimate the right amount of material required for your project, whether in Kent or anywhere else in the UK – just enter the dimensions required (see illustration). Then contact us with this and your required mix design and we will be able to provide you with a quotation.
Foam Concrete
Foam concrete is a lightweight, self-levelling, self-compacting material that is usually composed of cement, water and foaming agent, although additives and fillers such as sand, limestone dust, pulverised fly ash (Pfa) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) can also be used in the foam concrete mix.
Slurry Walls
This is a civil engineering concept that involves building a wall in the ground, sometimes many metres deep, in areas of soft earth close to open water or with a high ground water table.
Specialist Grout
Bentonite (Manufacturing & Supply) Ltd can manufacture and supply high volumes of material to projects, with bespoke batching plants that can supply up to 50+m³/hours and pump 500+ linear metres.
