DMR Structural Ltd incorporated was set up in January 2001 to provide freelance draughting services for the structural steelwork industry.

With over 30 years' experience in the steelwork industry, including fabrication, erection and cladding fixing, contract management, draughting, and drawing office management, we can offer a service second to none.

We have the experience to know what is required by clients when perhaps they don’t and we can foresee problems before they occur and eliminate them. The majority of our work is repeat business. Over the years we have built up a small but selective client base who provide us with regular work; notwithstanding this, we are always seeking new clients. All of our clients receive the same professional service and commitment to care, as this generates the best form of advertising.

We have been providing draughting services since the good old days of that long forgotten thing, the ‘Drawing Board’, known as DMR Structural Services back in 1988; this is when most of our client base was built up. We still offered the same quality and professional service back in those days that we maintain today. In 1993 we progressed into CAD with the help of a local fabricator/client, ME10D, supplied by CSC UK Ltd. This was a 2D based CAD system that enhanced our drawing presentation and provided the ability to detail steelwork much quicker than on the drawing board, but again with the same degree of quality and professionalism.

We kept a close eye on the way CAD progressed over the years and when we felt the time was right we changed from 2D to 3D CAD, which we still use today, known as Xsteel back in those days but more recently known as Tekla Structures.
Tekla Structures is a 3D modelling system, supplied by Tekla UK Ltd, which allows us to model steelwork in a solid rendered state which allows full visualisation of the structure. As well as being able to create the drawings from this model we can obtain other useful items such as material cutting schedules, bolt lists etc. We can also provide NC data for manufacturing from the same model. Another useful feature of Tekla structures is that we can produce a web view of the whole 3D model or a particular section, which we can upload onto the internet. This allows the design team to view the model via the internet which can aid us when problems need resolving. Tekla Structures enables us to provide the high degree of accuracy needed to produce steelwork drawings.

As part of our detailing services we are also able to provide connection design; for this we utilise Fastrak Moment Connections, supplied by CSC UK Ltd, and also SW Moment Connections, supplied by Computer & Design Services Ltd. We found both of these software packages to be a necessity as we had a lot of down time waiting for engineers to provide us with connection calculations. Now we can detail the connection to suit the steelwork layout and then run the connection through the relevant software and provide the calculations to justify it.

We always run the latest versions of all of our software, which keeps us up to date with the latest technology and enables us to provide our clients with the best possible service we can offer.

With the continuing and increasing use of communication technology in today’s drawing office, the implementation of broadband allows us to both receive and distribute information between all parties involved in a particular project more readily.

We are well known throughout the area by most fabricators, engineers, architects and main contractors and have a close working relationship with many of them. When we take on a job we take care of everything, we work with the design team/contractor to resolve all issues and to get the job done and approved to everyone’s satisfaction.
