About Brangwyns Studio

Brangwyn's Studio was established in 1972 by John Brangwyn. He was manager at Rowley's and founded Brangwyn and Maurice in Twickenham and Gallery 101, he also ran a framing and restoration gallery in Barnes.

After 30 years working in the London trade he settled in Farnham and continued a successful business for the next 11 years until his retirement in 1983. In 1980 after studying Fine Art at Epsom under Leslie Worth Nick Seversway started working full time with John Brangwyn.

They looked after the London Guidhall collection and worked to prepare the collection for the two Barbican exhibitions of the City's Pictures under the curatorship of Vivien Knight in 1982-3. Many pictures were cleaned including John Constables' full size sketch of Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows and repairs made to Sir Edward Poynters' Israel in Egypt. Many fine paintings have been entrusted to our care as well as those of value in other ways. We are dedicated to respect all pictures that pass through our studio.

Nick and Sue Seversway took over the business in 1983 having both trained in Fine Art. Nick had completed his apprenticeship in picture restoration with John Brangwyn and this led to a smooth continuation of the business. Sue, a draughtswoman and artist with a keen eye for detail and design, is responsible for the overall look of our work.

The longevity of the business has been built on a genuine concern for the artefacts that pass through the studio, a feel for the long term conservation and history of the pictures, and a love for art.

The shop offers a carefully selected collection of 19th and 20th century watercolours together with antique and vintage prints. These are fully conserved and beautifully presented in acid-free mounting and framed sensitively in keeping with their character and age.

We are situated between Farnham and Aldershot just off the A325 at Heath End. We are 10 miles from Guildford A31. Easy from London M3 (Junct 4)or A3 (then A31 to Farnham). Parking is available outside the shop.

Framing
As much of our framing work is restoration linked we are only too aware of the damage caused by poor and cheap framing practices. Works of art on paper are not designed to be cleaned every few years as this has a detrimental effect on both the paper and the pigments. Foxing, stains and discoloration are often the direct result of such framing.

With this very much in mind we use only the highest grade conservation or museum quality mountboards and conservation practices. Specialist glazing is also available if required. Our washline mounts are crafted 'in house' to the highest standards and we carry a selection of mouldings that are designed to enhance and keep a sense of period to the finished work.

Our range also includes and exciting and inventive choice of modern framing.
