About Hardhat Services

Are You Breaking The Law?

You Could Be Liable for Heavy Fines!

Not Knowing is not an exemption!

Are you aware of your legal obligations under 'The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations'? Did you know that you could face extensive fines if you carry out work that is in breach of these regulations?

It is estimated that Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) may be present in up to half a million premises in the UK and represent serious health risks if the materials are not properly identified and managed. CAWR 2006 were introduced to address, eliminate and manage these risks. Following implementation of the new legalisation and duty to manage, from the 13th November 2006, it became a legal requirement that companies and individuals do not expose themselves, client or their workforce to asbestos in any form, and for an asbestos survey be undertaken prior to the commencement of any work. Further, companies and individuals are legally required to ensure that their workforce are trained in Asbestos Awareness.

Anyone who works on the fabric of a building is at risk of disturbing asbestos. This includes:
  • Electricians, joiners, plumbers, gas fitters, shop fitters, heating and ventilation engineers;
  • Labourers, roofers, plasterers, demolition workers and other workers in construction;
  • Phone and data engineers, alarm installers; and
  • Surveyors, general maintenance engineers, painters and decorators.

HardHat Services provide a full service in respect of CAWR 2006, carrying our surveys prior to the commencement of works, producing a full report meeting MDHS100 requirements, and providing impartial advice throughout the period of works. Additionally we are able to provide Asbestos Awareness Training for individuals or groups. All survey work is undertaken in accordance with the British Occupational Hygiene Society's Accreditation by a fully qualified Occupational Hygienist.

The Health and Safety Executive and Environmental Health Department will enforce these regulations, and it is essential therefore that you comply with them. We are happy to provide initial advice and information in respect of your projects to ensure that you carry out the work appropriately and effectively, maintaining the safety of your workforce and meeting all of your legal requirements.
