Developing for the future, showcasing the past
Kresen Kernow, Redruth, Cornwall.
CGD Ltd is delighted to be part of this ongoing redevelopment project of the historical Redruth Brewery in Cornwall. The brewhouse will be converted into the Cornish Archive Centre. The new building as stated on the Museums Heritage website will be the world’s largest collection of manuscripts, maps and photographs. And will also contain public reading rooms, learning spaces for schools, exhibition areas and meeting rooms.
Partnering with Merret Surveys Ltd, CGD Ltd took laserscan data and created a 3D Revet model of the existing derelict building.
This was an exciting project and different from the BIM projects we usually get involved with as it requires a high level of validation and collaboration between CGD Ltd, Merret Survey Ltd and the architect. Considering the large scale of this project, our experience in the project has taken us a step further towards utilising BIM standards and developing a better approach to converting laser scan data into a 3D model not just for design purposes but also for developing a model that can be used as a tool for coordination. This is an important scheme for Cornwall and as a surveyor, it is important to us that our 3D survey model should support the project team helping them to design and construct a building that will change the face of Cornwall.
