Balfour Beatty To Build Road Through Lincoln

Construction firm Balfour Beatty has been chosen to build a new road through Lincoln, in a contract worth £10.5m.

The work includes building approximately 2km of new road including double lanes, bus-lanes and pedestrian crossings, and will link the High Street to Pelham Bridge with the route travelling along Tentercroft Street, a former coal yard at Sincil Drain, Canwick Road and Kesteven Street.

Balfour Beatty will also demolish some Victorian buildings at the south east corner of the High Street and restore the facades on others. It will also provide drainage systems and storage tanks to prevent flooding, several signalised and pedestrian crossings, tactile paving and street-lighting.

Stephen Semple, Balfour Beatty Managing Director for the East Midlands, said: "We are very pleased to be working for Lincolnshire County Council to deliver this important project to reduce congestion and provide economic regeneration.

"Balfour Beatty has experience of successfully delivering city centre road and transport schemes and we put a high priority on engaging with the community to ensure that we operate considerately and sustainably."

Work will start in November 2014.
