Lovell Poster Competition Spreads Safety Message At Primary School

Pupils at Bassingbourn Community Primary School have designed striking posters spelling out the message that construction sites are not playgrounds for a competition set by Lovell.

The poster competition is part of an ongoing campaign by Lovell to raise awareness among children and young people that they should never play on a construction site. The company is currently working in Bassingbourn on The Causeway, a £1.9 million development of 20 new affordable homes, for affordable housing provider Circle Anglia.

Lovell regional health and safety manager Darryl Hammond underlined the safety message when he visited the school in Brook Road earlier this year to speak to pupils. Children watched a film made by Lovell featuring the company's cartoon 'hard hat' characters Lenny and Laura, who help children understand that construction sites are dangerous.

During his visit, Darryl also set pupils a competition to design a safety poster which attracted more than 200 entries and was judged by Circle Anglia. Lovell presented the first prize winner in each year group with a £10 book token, with a £5 book token going to the second prize winners. All the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners received Lovell 'Lenny and Laura' goodies including pencils, colouring books and toys.

All of the posters designed by the pupils will now be displayed on the site hoardings at The Causeway.

At The Causeway, Lovell is building 10 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom houses, which will be available for affordable rent through Circle Anglia. The project is due to be completed this summer.
