Network Rail To Upgrade Signalling Equipment Over Bank Holiday

Upgrade work is to be carried out on trackside signalling equipment in Lanarkshire over the late May bank holiday.

Network Rail has revealed it will be carrying out work in the Rutherglen and Polmadie area.

The scheme involves replacing trackside signalling equipment with modern, in-cab computer displays and control centre systems.

Signalling work will also be carried out on the Halton Curve near Liverpool from Saturday, 26 May to Monday, 28 May. Work will also take place in the Birmingham area as part of the wider West Midlands resignalling project.

Network Rail said: “Across Britain, we're carrying out the complex electrical work needed to 'recontrol' the signals, which involves moving control of the signals from the side of the track to new, state-of-the-art operating centres.”

Passengers are being encouraged to check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
