Road Bridge Repair Project Continues In Leicestershire

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a road bridge repair project in Leicestershire.

The structure on Grove Lane in Barrow upon Soar is scheduled to reopen on Monday, 27 March.

Pieces of the bridge fell onto the tracks overnight in August last year, resulting in train services bound for London through the East Midlands being disrupted.

Repair works by Network Rail and contractors AMCO have included removing 200 tonnes of debris, restoring the brick parapet wall, reconnecting gas and water mains which run through the bridge, as well as resurfacing the road.

Gary Walsh, area director at Network Rail, said: "Repairing this bridge has been a huge project. Work to repair old bridges such as this one are complicated and can run into unforeseen challenges. Although we want the bridge to open as soon as possible, we need to make sure that the bridge is safe for all users before it reopens."

Further upgrade work will be required later this year. An event will be held next month to provide local residents with information on the project, as well as to answer any questions.

The session will take place between 5pm – 7pm at Barrow upon Soar Scout Hut on 15 March.
