Trant Secures £55.7m Contract With DIO

Trant Engineering has secured a £55.7 million contract with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) to upgrade RAF Mount Pleasant on the Falkland Islands.

The infrastructure improvement deal was signed on 03 May and forms part of an £180m investment to modernise military infrastructure of the islands over the next 10 years.

Works will include upgrading the main power station, main boiler house and district heating system to ensure the facilities continue to provide a reliable means of supplying electrical power and hot water.

An additional investment is expected to be made on improve new services accommodation at the three Radar Heads.

Simon Trant, MD at Trant Engineering, said: "It will be a privilege and honour to utilise our expertise to upgrade Mount Pleasant power station. The contract award follows a rigorous and exacting selection process.

"We have been working on various infrastructure projects on the Falkland Islands and are operationally familiar with the environment."

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon added: "The upgrading of these facilities is an important part of our major investment plan to deliver better infrastructure for our armed forces.

"Alongside our recent contract to improve Mare harbour, we are boosting our defensive capability and supporting the Islands."
