Stannah - Connecting People In New Dementia Intensive Care Unit

Construction News Image
A Stannah Xtralift passenger lift is providing vital people movement in Hammerton Court, a £13.7 million Dementia Intensive Care Unit new to Julian Hospital in Norwich, Norfolk.

Installed by the East Anglia branch of Stannah Lift Services, the 8-person, motor room-less Xtralift operates between ground-floor wards and patient areas and first-floor staff rooms, training rooms and offices in this purpose-built, 36-bed building designed to meet present and future dementia needs.

Finished in patterned stainless steel with a high-visibility handrail, LED downlighter ceiling and anti-slip flooring, the Xtralift’s gearless, oil and vibration-free, electric traction drive ensures a smooth ride with low noise, energy use and running costs.

A unique rail system makes installation fast and efficient, and location of the controls at the top of the shaft saves space. The controller features a power regeneration panel which allows for electricity to be generated on downward travel of the lift car.

Showcasing a wealth of eco features such as a living sedum roof, underfloor heating, ground source heat pumps and solar panels, Hammerton Court was designed by the Norwich branch of the multi-disciplinary building consultancy, Ingleton Wood. Project Engineer, Michael Perschky, specified the Strannah Xtralift as it fulfilled the company’s eco ethos: "The Green credentials were carefully considered by the Ingleton Wood design team, and a Stannah Xtralift complied with the BREEAM criteria for energy efficiency of up to 2 points."

Installed to comply with BS-EN 81-70, BS 5655 and Part M building regulations, the Xtralift also helps Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

Stannah is also providing a full support package with the Xtralift being looked after by the East Anglia branch of Stannah Lift Services. Part of Stannah’s nationwide network of service branches, the service branch is on hand 24/7, 365 days a year to keep the lifts in peak condition, ensuring that Hammerton Court delivers total access for all to its full range of care, teaching and administration facilities.
