We were looking to replace our old hardwood conservatory. We browsed the internet and found Nicholson Joinery, who were reasonably local to us.
Richard visited our house and came up with some fresh ideas, which included having an orangery rather than a conservatory. We went along with this and are delighted with the outcome.
Richard and his team were easy to work with and did an excellent job for us.
Everything was done very professionally from the design and planning stage right through to the final installations.
Richard is a perfectionist and this so helped in ensuring that any issues were sorted out before they became issues!
We would have no hesitation in recommending Nicholson Joinery for anyone with similar requirements.

The quality of both the door set and installation is quite superb and a real credit to you personally and Nicholson’s.
I think we had fairly high expectations (certainly high hopes) and the end result comfortably exceeds on both counts.
We have done quite a lot of work here over the years, including a fairly expensive oak floor, and this feels like the most satisfying job we have had done in terms of finish and value.
Somehow the hall even seems larger!!

Nicholson Joinery, a century of craftsmanship around the Midlands
Born in Malton near York in 1872, Harry Nicholson started his career as a joiner upon leaving school. One of his first jobs was working for the estate at Castle Howard, one of Yorkshire’s finest stately homes and maintaining the joinery of this fine building. It was here that he met his future wife Sarah Ellen Parkin who was nanny to the four children of the famous chocolatiers, the Rowntree family who were the owners of Castle Howard at that time. With his work completed at Castle Howard, Harry and Sarah moved to South Birmingham at the turn of the century where Harry worked for the Cadbury family and completed work on many of the buildings of the Bourneville Estate As a master craftsman Harry worked on a number of historical buildings in the area including the building of the ornate domes of the Aston Webb building at Birmingham University. Harry was not only a skilled joiner but also proved himself to be a talented athlete when he won the Birmingham to Manchester bike race for “Birchfield Harriers”.
Nicholson Joinery is a business built on over a hundred years of family tradition in joinery. Following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and great grandfather who were all joiners, Richard Charles Nicholson continues the family story. Richard still uses some of his great grandfather’s tools which are stamped with his initials. Two original Spear and Jackson hand saws have been used by all four generations being passed down over the years; they are now retired from service. Richard is proud to continue the family tradition of producing hand crafted carpentry using time honoured joinery methods.
Nicholson Joinery is a business built on over a hundred years of family tradition in joinery.
