Clapham One regeneration Scheme

Leading social housing contractor and developer United House secured a £29 million contract to build a new community library, primary care medical centre and 136 homes in Clapham High Street as part of the Clapham One regeneration scheme, with joint developers Cathedral Group.

The £80 million landmark PPP (Public Private Partnership) Project for the London Borough of Lambeth encompasses two sites in Clapham. The library, medical centre and 136 private apartments will be situated on the site of Mary Seacole House, a former social services office on Clapham High Street. Working directly for United House, specialist contractor Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were tasked with the installation of installing Oldroyd cavity drainage system to the walls and floors to the basement of the former social services office (Mary Seacole House).

Case Study: Thales Car Park, Crawley

Case Study: Thales Car Park, Crawley Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd who have a long term history of Waterproofing Multi Storey Car Park Decks since they were formed in 1969, were called in by Vinci Facilities to inspect the ramp, and top deck areas to the staff car park at the Crawley offices of Thales UK, a major electronic systems company acting in areas such as defence, aerospace, airlines security and safety. The car parks top deck and ramp had previously been asphalted, and from a safety point of view the client was looking for a slip deterrent coating system to be applied to the bottom and top section of the ramp, together with the turning circles on the top deck of the car park. Cemplas have previously worked with specialist manufacturer Degafloor, decided to use one of their ultra-fast curing, highly slip resistant, and extremely durable industrial resin solutions called them in, and put together the mutual companies compiled a proposal of work and materials. The proposal and time frame was accepted by Vinci Facilities who consequently instructed Cemplas to carry out the works. The entire works were programmed to be undertaken over two consecutive weekends so as to ensure there was no disruption at all to the staff of Thales. The asphalt substrate was prepared using triple head grinders and dust extractors. Once full preparation had been completed, a Degafloor resin system was applied to in excess of 850m2. Due to the uneven surface of the asphalt, Cemplas operatives were required to apply a scratch coat to level the surface incorporating Degafloor 465 together with a filler. A further coat of Degfloor 465 with filler was applied, and the system was sealed with a pigmented top coat of Degafloor 465 RTU. After completion of Degafloor’s resin waterproofing, slip deterrent coating, Cemplas re-instated all the car park demarcation line markings ensuring the work was completed on time, and to the complete satisfaction of the client. Cemplas are one of the UK’s leading independent car park specialists renowned for consistent high quality. Cemplas will visit the location to evaluate damage and deterioration and recommend the appropriate treatment which may include top Deck waterproofing, and wearing course systems to the intermediate decks whilst also providing an aesthetically pleasing and durable finish. Case study: Control House, South Pier, Great Yarmouth

Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs ltd were invited by the Great Yarmouth Port Company Ltd (GYPC) to undertake a survey and inspection of the Control House to the South Pier in Great Yarmouth which had been closed off to members of the public due to the unsafe nature of the concrete elements of the structure. The first stage when undertaking any Concrete Repair is for Cemplas trained operatives to assess the damage, deterioration and provide a diagnosis of the cause. A proper assessment will include analysis of the current condition of the structure, including both visible and latent deterioration. An understanding and consideration of the client's objectives, with regard to financial constraints and the future requirements of the structure is as important, at this stage as the extent of the structure's problems, as the results can affect the client's considerations regarding the most cost-effective repair solution. Cemplas put together a proposal to undertake the remedial repair works, and were instructed by the client to commence setting up the site by installing safety barriers and fencing in prior to commencing. A cherry picker and welfare unit were installed on site, and Cemplas operatives began by breaking out all areas of defective concrete back to a sound substrate, and exposing the steel reinforcement bars. Due to the extent of some of the corroded steel, they had to be replaced with new reinforcement bars. All steel reinforcement was then thoroughly cleaned and primed with Weber Keycoat rust inhibitor. And sacrificial anodes were installed to the steel rebars prior to reinstating the defective concrete using Weber HB40 repair mortar. Once the entire concrete repair works had been completed, Cemplas applied Weber Cote primer and 2 coats of Weber Cote EC to the areas of repaired concrete. To complete the project, a Waterproof Resin Coating was applied to the top concrete beam where there was an existing asphalt overhang. All work was completed on time and within budget to the complete satisfaction of the client. Twickenham Rugby Football Union Stadium landings and stair nosings refurbishment.

Prior to the 2015 Rugby World Cup taking place, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were called in by the RFU to inspect and survey both the landings, and stairs to the external and internal areas of Twickenham stadium. The survey and inspection highlighted the landings and stair nosings to the external areas were not coated, and therefore did not afford any slip deterrent property. The internal steps inside the stadiums arena were coated with an existing yellow safety stair nose coating, but this was shown to be failing and de-bonding from the concrete substrate Cemplas, along with specialist manufacturer Degafloor, put together a specification to install a slip deterrent coating to the nosing’s and landings of the external staircase areas, and to replace the internal yellow safety nosings with a new resin coating. A number of onsite trials were undertaken by Cemplas to show the client different colours, and finishes, and after several trials and discussions with the RFU, Cemplas were awarded a £250,000 order for the resin coating works, equating to around 18,000 steps and some 1000m2 of landings. Due to the Rugby World Cup fast approaching, Cemplas had a tight programme to meet, and had 30 operatives on site at any given time during the project. Following all preparation works to the 15 external staircases and stair nosings, Cemplas operatives applied a resin system which incorporated Degafloor 112 pigmented concrete primer, this was then broadcasted with red coloured quartz to provide a degree of slip deterrent, followed by applying Degafloor 529 clear seal coat. Once the works to the external staircases had been completed, Cemplas operatives moved inside to the internal seating area of the stadium to commence with the nosing coating works to the lower, middle, and upper tiers, applying a base coat of Degafloor Resin in green, broadcasted with green coloured quartz and sealed with Degafloor 529 seal coat. With over 45 year’s industry experience, specialist contractor Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd continue to provide expertise and reassurance in all areas, and the works were completed on-time prior the commencement of the Rugby World Cup, and to the satisfaction of the RFU. New Resin Coating to Twickenham Rugby Stadium Toilets.

Prior to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were awarded a £250,000 project to apply Degafloor resin coating system incorporating slip deterrent properties to arears of Twickenham stadiums internal and external stairs. Twickenham is the second largest stadium in the UK, after Wembley Stadium, and the fourth largest in Europe, and will host American football as part of the NFL International Series from 2016. Following completion of these works, the RFU who were delighted with the previous work Cemplas undertook, asked Cemplas back to inspect 7 toilets within the stadium that had some form of previous floor coating that were not up to the standard this prestigious stadium required. An inspection by Cemplas concluded each toilet floor coating were in poor condition and the adhesion was poor resulting in the coating starting to de-bond and fail, and a proposal for the works with manufacturer Degafloor was put together to undertake remedial works. Once approved by the RFU, and although given a tight deadline to complete the works in readiness for the England v Fiji opening game of the tournament, Cemplas were confident the work would be undertaken within the time frame Cemplas operatives commenced with the floor preparation works using triple head grinders with dust extractors, and removed all existing surface coatings to leave a suitable substrate for the new Degafloor coating. A Degafloor 112 concrete primer was applied and fully broadcasted with a natural quartz to provide a slip deterrent surface. Once the primer had cured, Cemplas applied the first grey pigmented top coat. Once the first top coat had cured a clear seal coat of Degafloor 529 was applied.
